Graham Greene, the 'Dances with Wolves’ actor, has passed away after battling through a long illness in Toronto on September 1. He was 73 at the time. “He was a great man of morals, ethics, and character and will be eternally missed,” Graham Greene’s agent, Michael Greene, said in the statement, according to Deadline. Furthermore, he added, “You are finally free. Susan Smith is meeting you at the gates of heaven,” referring to Greene’s long-time agent who passed away in 2013.

Born on June 22, 1952, in Ontario, Canada, on the Six Nations Reserve, Greene is hailed for opening the doors for various Indigenous actors in the industry. After working odd jobs, he began performing on stage, and by the 1970s, he was appearing in professional theaters. Debuting in the entertainment industry, Greene made an appearance in an episode of ‘The Great Detectives’ in 1979. The late actor made his film debut with ‘Running Brave’ in 1983.

Greene rose to fame after working in the film ‘Dances with Wolves,’ where Kevin Costner cast him as Kicking Bird. The film received 12 Oscar nominations and won 7, including Greene’s Best Supporting Actor and Best Picture. After working in the critically acclaimed film, he received many offers and roles subsequently. The high-profile features include ‘Maverick’ (1994) with the fellow Oscar winners, Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, ‘Die Hard with a Vengeance’ (1995) with Bruce Willis, ‘The Green Mile’ (1999) with Tom Hanks, and ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ (2009) with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Additionally, Greene also had main roles in ‘Thunderstorm’ (1992), ‘Transamerica’ (2005), and Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Wind River’ (2017). Sheridan decided to cast Greene in the latter projects, including ‘1883’ and ‘Tulsa King.’ Graham Greene is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore, and his daughter, Lilly Lazare-Greene.
