Karun Nair, who had suffered an injury while batting in the fifth and final Test at The Oval against England and had also missed the Maharaja Trophy (KSCA T20 tournament), has not been named in the side.With Shreyas Iyer entrusted with leading the India A team in the two unofficial four-day games against Australia A in Lucknow, it could mean that the selectors have looked past the Karnataka batter.

Iyer, not picked even among the reserves for the Asia Cup beginning Tuesday, is currently turning out for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone in Bengaluru.The first unofficial Test will be played from September 16–19 and the second from September 23–26 at the Ekana Stadium.In Nair's case, it can be assumed that he is still recuperating from the finger injury. He has also posted a video on his Instagram page indicating that he is getting back to his fitness.Former India opener Aakash Chopra suggested that Karun's future does not look good, and he might not be named in the squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies, starting October 2.

He is not unavailable," said Chopra on his YouTube channel."He is fit and then not picked; it seems that the selectors have decided to look past Karun Nair. Shreyas is interesting. He was not picked for the Asia Cup, and there was a lot of backlash. Now he finds himself at the helm of the India A team," added Chopra.For Karun, the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy was underwhelming. He managed only 205 runs in eight innings, with just one fifty at The Oval.
